Best Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper for Textured Walls
Testing 12 top brands, so you don’t waste your money on wallpaper that doesn’t work

Most peel-and-stick wallpapers have a disclaimer saying the wallpaper will not work on textured walls. I don’t know about you, but this is a huge bummer for me because textured walls are the only kind of walls there are in my area.
I also know that disclaimer isn’t completely true, because I have had friends successfully install peel-and-stick wallpaper on textured walls. But I’ve also had friends unsuccessfully install peel-and-stick wallpaper on textured walls.
So the million-dollar question is, which wallpaper brands make a removable wallpaper that will stick to textured walls?
I set out to answer this question so that we textured wall people don’t have to live in sad, boring, wallpaper-less homes.
This post is not sponsored in any way. None of these companies have any idea who I am, and I spent my own money to buy all the samples. The results are 100% unbiased.
What is the best peel-and-stick wallpaper for textured walls?
TL;DR (SPOILER ALERT!)
If you don’t care about the details and just want to know who the winner is so you can buy it and get on with your life, here is the answer. Only three out of the twelve wallpapers tested did well on textured walls. Here are the brands I recommend –
If you are not a “read the last page of the novel first” kinda person and you want the details, then I’m about to be your new favorite human.
First off, if you would like to watch this blog post instead of reading it, the below video is for you. You will see that this wallpaper comparison didn’t start out for only textured walls, but I quickly realized that I had to do separate experiments for smooth and textured walls. So, if you love wallpaper drama, you will very much enjoy this 12-minute emotional rollercoaster.

March 2026 Update – I redid this experiment, this time testing 12 peel-and-stick wallpapers for 5 months inside my house. Click below to read the post.
I Tested 12 Peel-and-Stick Wallpapers on Textured Walls (My 5-Month Results)
The Twelve Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper Brands Tested
I purchased 12 different wallpapers hoping I could confidently recommend at least one. I bought cheap ones, I bought expensive ones, I bought all the most common brands I could find.

Here are the contestants (along with their prices, roll sizes, and where they can be purchased)
- InHome – Roughly $20 per roll (20.8inx18ft). Available at Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, Amazon, Wayfair…pretty much anywhere.
- Floral Plus – Roughly $15 for a small roll (17.7in x 9ft). Available on Amazon.
- Birch Lane – Prices vary ($25-$60) depending on which design you choose. Available at birchlane.com and Wayfair.
- Tempaper – Roughly $30 per roll (20.5inx16.5ft). It is one of the most popular brands, readily available online and in person.
- RoomMates – Roughly $30 per roll (20.5inx16.5ft). Available nearly anywhere you can buy wallpaper, including Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Lowes, Amazon and Wayfair.
- NuWallpaper – Roughly $30 per roll (20.5in x 18ft). Readily available online and in person.
- Threshold – $34 per roll (20in x 16.5ft). Available at Target.
- Opal House – $34 per roll (20inx16.5ft). Available at Target.
- Rifle Paper Company – $65 per roll (20.5inx20ft). Available at riflepaperco.com
- Anewall – $389-$499 for a 141”W x 108”H mural. It comes in rolls, but you have to buy the whole mural worth it. Available at anewall.com (about $60-$75 per roll)
- Serena & Lily – $98 per roll (20.5inx16.5ft). Available at serenaandlily.com
- Spoonflower – $129 for a small roll (2×12 ft). Available at spoonflower.com
The Great Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper Experiment
This test was conducted in my garage on drywall that has an orange peel texture. The paint on the wall is Benjamin Moore in an eggshell finish. I did this experiment in my garage because I had a previous experience with peel-and-stick wallpaper destroying my drywall (see here), so I was hesitant to do this experiment in my house. The garage is not temperature-controlled, but the Texas spring weather was perfect and not too extreme in either direction. It did rain during this experiment, so humidity was a factor (great news if you want to wallpaper a bathroom!)
Also, I completely forgot to take still photos of the wall each day, so please enjoy the fuzzy video screenshots I’ve provided.
Day 1 –
Installed all the wallpaper samples.

Roommates brand wallpaper fell before I even got all the samples up. I reinstalled a new piece to give it a second chance, and it fell within 10 minutes.

Day 2-
Woke up to check on the samples and see how they did overnight. InHome, NuWallpaper, Spoonflower, and Tempaper all fell.

Day 3-
Four more brands fell overnight…Floral Plus, Birch Lane, Anewall, and Serena & Lily. Only three brands are left.

Day 4 –
Nothing else fell overnight – Threshold, OpalHouse, and Rifle Paper Company were still going strong.
Day 5 –
The same brands were still on the wall, so I decided it was time to remove the three remaining wallpaper samples. This part of the experiment was crucial because of my previous experience with peel-and-stick wallpaper, which involved it not coming off without destroying the drywall.

Luckily, all three came off cleanly and easily, and it was very anti-climactic.
The Results: Wallpapers to Buy if You Have Textured Walls
After conducting this experiment, I can confidently recommend these three peel-and-stick wallpaper brands. They will stay up on the wall, not harm the drywall underneath, are renter-friendly, and should even work in bathrooms!
Rifle Paper Company
Rifle Paper Company has lots of beautiful wallpaper designs. Many are fun and colorful, and you can find more neutral designs as well. You can purchase their wallpaper in peel-and-stick or traditional, plus they match home decor items. Their wallpaper is good quality and runs about $65-$70 a roll, and you can grab samples for $5 each.

Opalhouse
Opalhouse is a Target brand wallpaper; you can’t buy it anywhere else. Its designs range from funky and color-saturated to neutral and simple. The rolls cost $34 each.

Threshold
Threshold is also a Target brand that you can’t get anywhere else. Their designs are much more neutral than the other two brands, with many of them being faux wall treatments like shiplap and brick. Rolls are priced at $34 each.

In Conclusion –
Peel-and-stick wallpaper is a great way to add personality to your home, and having textured walls doesn’t have to mean you miss out on the fun…you just have to make sure and get the right brand. If you have smooth walls, stay tuned for the results of that experiment!

Oh! Thank you so much for the tips. Peel-and-Stick wallpaper is so varied and easy.
Very informative content I must say.
Thanks for this post. I finally took the plunge (after dilly dallying for over a year on whether it will stick on texture) with your very-convincing experiment here. My Opalhouse has held up overnight (about 15 hours now after installing it on a textured wall). However, I do see some bubbling on the edges. Like there the wallpaper ends length-wise, it is popping up (unpeeling) in some spots. Very few though. Cause for concern? I squeegeed it more but I think this is going ot be the norm given the texture below. I am happy as long as the whole thing does not fall off.
I wouldn’t be too concerned; the texture is just giving it less to grip on the ends. If it starts to peel more you could try adding a bit of adhesive. I don’t have any exact product recommendations, but somewhere online I saw a spray wallpaper adhesive for situations like this.
Thank you for doing this experiment. I’m in Houston, and have same orange peel-like textured walls. Just ordered some Opalhouse peel and stick paper from Target using your link. So happy to finally get a product that will work in my powder room!
Yay! Happy to help and thank you for using my link!
I have the same texture throughout my entire house. How did it work out for you?
Thank you! This was so useful. I’ve been humming and hawing for more than a couple of years on this wallpaper issue. I have put rolls into my Amazon cart and taken them right back out again. And my kitchen bathroom remains unfinished. I have textured walls (here in Belize) just like yours and it would be such a pain as I have to order and ship the wall paper over to me here. Thank you I’m going to take the plunge with one of your recommendations. I’ll let you know what happens……
So happy you found this helpful, and I would love an update!
May I inquire if your walls were painted prior to installing? And if so, what was the sheen (flat, egshell, etc…) Did you wash the walls first? I’ve got the standard CA builder slightly bumpy texture (seems similar to yours) but the walls are painted with eggshell finish.
I’m thinking the grip might be best if I wash the walls first. I’ll buy a light spray adhesive for backup in case my first try fails.
Yes, my walls were painted prior to installing, they’re eggshell sheen from Benjamin Moore (same as the inside of my house). I wiped down the walls to clean them before the experiment, but I wouldn’t say I “washed” them. It certainly can’t hurt to fully clean and dry them first.
Thank you! I’d all but given up on wallpaper in my powder room. After reading this I hung some scrap opalhouse from a different project to see if it stays. Fingers crossed!
Thank you so much for this extremely informative and helpful experiment! You’re awesome!
Thank you for this! Finally some helpful (and hopeful) info for those of us with textured walls.
Did any of the three wallpapers have strong off-gasing smells?
I didn’t notice any.
This is super helpful! I am curious (1) if you have used any of your top 3 peel-and-stick brands in any of the rooms in your house (outside of this testing),(2) if you had any issues, and (3) if the peel-and-stick is still up? I am contemplating doing my daughters room, but still wary! Thanks in advance!
I have not used them in my house outside of the experiment. I plan to use one of them to do my bathroom, but I just haven’t gotten there yet.
well, is the peel and stick still up? 5 days is … just 5 days.
I still haven’t put any wallpaper up in my bathroom, but I am currently redoing this experiment. Leaving them up for four months this time, and indoors… because five days is only five days. Results will be out this month.
This is incredibly helpful and your experiment and time is appreciated!
Since then have you tried the Painted Paper company? Their stuff is beautiful so I was wondering if anyone has tried it yet to verify if it will hold
