Have you ever caught yourself wondering what roughly $35,000 worth of gravel, concrete, and manual labor would look like? Yes? I knew it. Well it looks a lot like this...
It's the most beautiful hunk of concrete I've ever seen.
Alright, let's dig into the process.
So first the form boards went up. It started with the foundation crew saying "tell us where you want it" and Adam and I were like "HERE".... and they got to work. (Actually that's not entirely true... first we fought a …

Interior Inspiration
One of my goals with this new house is to have the actual house have personality, not just the stuff in it. Most new homes I see these days (I know because I stalk realtor.com for fun, still) are big, beige, drywall boxes. Even the expensive ones...they're all the same. I want this home to be truly unique and custom. I want it to be functional and carefully thought out, cozy and open (it can happen!), fun and casual. In other words, I want it to be completely Adam and Ashley.
So this post is …

Exterior Inspiration Pictures
Hey everyone, hope y'all had a great Fourth! So today I'm sharing some of the pictures Adam and I used as inspiration while designing our new home.
But first, a public service announcement...
If you're using pinterst to design a new home or remodel an old one, STOP IT. Pinterest has its place of course, but is Houzz is so much better. I will sing Houzz praises till I'm blue in the face, it's that amazing. Just like on pinterst you can search through what seems to be unlimited photos and …

Designing a House
Alright y'all, it's finally time to dig into the plans for the new house! YAY! So this post is going to be a bit of back story on the house, and in the next few posts I'll share our inspiration pics and floor plan. And bear with me because it's kinda all over the place (I'm trying to keep it somewhat short and sweet).
Here we go....
We designed our new house from scratch. As in, here is a blank piece of paper....draw your dream home. Sounds awesome right? It is. Also, it's extremely …

How we’ve been spending our weekends (a land update)
When I first introduced y'all to the property we are building our house on it was the middle of winter and nothing was green. Well, I'm happy to say that is no longer the case!
(these were taken before all the crazy flooding here in Texas)
The creek is gorgeous. There are SO MANY ferns that you can't even get to the water, and the trees are huge and provide lots of shade. We've been working hard to clear out all the cedar trees (aka "trash trees"), and if your turn around 180 …

Ten home improvement projects I would do again
Well, I didn't really expect to be sitting around my house writing posts this week, but alas, here I am...41 weeks pregnant. According to the doctor there are no signs that I will go into labor in the next week, so he scheduled me for an induction on Wednesday if nothing happens before then. I'm praying it doesn't come to that though, because IÂ really want to go into labor naturally. Pitocin is the devil.
Anyway, I'm just going to keep writing list posts that don't require me to any actual …

Ten home improvement projects I won’t be repeating
So today is my official due date. This baby is fully cooked, I'm horribly uncomfortable, and the doctor said at my appointment on Tuesday that it doesn't look like this kid is planning to come anytime soon. Darn my comfortable uterus! I was really hoping to have this kid a few days before the due date (like my last pregnancy), but it looks like this pregnancy might be more like my first, when I went until 42 weeks. My oldest's fifth birthday is on Sunday though and I REALLY don't want them to …

Top Ten Must-Haves for the Next House
We're nearing the final stages of designing our new house (almost to the blueprints stage!) and I've spent the last couple months reflecting on this house, thinking about what we've messed up, what we love, and what we would change. I have a couple of posts coming up relating to all that, and today is the first.
My list is actually much, MUCH longer than this (I'm such a pain), but for the sake of time and everyone's sanity I'm going to keep all my lists down to top ten lists. So in no …

Why the guest room isn’t becoming a nursery
Since announcing that I'm pregnant with baby #3 I've been asked a few times if the guest room is going to become a nursery. The short answer is "no"....the long answer is the rest of this post :)
To be honest, I'm not going to prep for this baby at all. It's not getting a nursery and I'm not altering the boy's room. We're just going to put this kid in a crib in our room and call it a day.
Why? Because I don't think we're going to be in this house long enough for it to really …
