So Adam and I have been working on our laundry room for a while now, but as we are not HGTV it actually takes us real-life amounts of time to finish a room remodel. Two years so far, I think... that's normal, right? Don't answer that. It has been a process but I swear we are almost done, and it gets more usable every time we work on it. It's actually starting to look pretty dang amazing.
As a refresher, here are the posts I have already written about the laundry room -

Painting Laminate Countertops with Chalkboard Paint
I considered lots of different things for the laminate countertops in the RV (I was this close to skimming it with concrete). It's a tiny amount of surface space, so I could pretty much do anything without it being expensive. In the end, I decided just to paint them since neither my husband nor I wanted to put in the time or effort to rip out and replace the counters (or risk the concrete layer cracking and flaking off). There are a ton of kits and products out there for painting countertops, …

Kitchen Progress – Dark green cabinets, a rustic wood countertop, and lighting
Last time I did an overall kitchen update we had just installed the cabinets and it looked like this....
Well now we have not only moved in, but I’ve painted the cabinets, we poured our concrete countertops, added a wood island top, bought appliances, and installed our island lighting.
First thing first, the cabinet color. I wrote a post a few weeks ago about how I went from wanting a light airy green to something dark and dramatic, and I have to say that I’m pretty pleased …

DIY Concrete Countertops, Part III – Sealing
If I’ve learned anything about DIY in the last 5.5 years of writing this blog, it’s that it’s all about the sealer. You could do the most awesome job ever on a project, and if you don’t seal it correctly it’s all for naught.
I knew I needed an amazing sealer for my concrete countertops, for three reasons....
Concrete is a porous material, so it’s susceptible to stains
Not only are our countertops concrete, but they are also white
I’m messy
So even though Z Counterform sent …

DIY Concrete Countertops, Part II – The Pour
*Thank you to Z Counterform for sponsoring this post.
Alright, here it is...part II of my concrete countertop series! I know a lot of you have been patiently waiting for this post and I’m excited to share all the details. (Read part 1 here if you haven’t already.)
Before we get started on the tutorial, let me just tell you that neither Adam or I have ever worked with concrete, we are truly newbies at this. We spent a ton of time watching videos and reading tutorials online, but had no …

DIY Concrete Countertops, Part I- Setting the Forms
Well, we did it...we actually poured our own concrete countertops! Adam and I spent hours and hours (and hours) researching this before we did it. We read tutorials and watched YouTube videos and generally felt prepared and confident...but honestly, the process still didn’t go quite like we thought it would. Turns out no amount of research or reading can compare to actually getting your hands dirty. I already knew that...but now I know it better.
There are a lot of steps and information to …

My Butcher Block Countertops, Two Years Later
A few weeks ago I got an e-mail from a reader asking me to write a post about how our butcher block countertops are holding up. I have to admit, I'm a little embarrassed I didn't think of this myself....of course I should write a follow-up post. My main concern when we choose them was how they would hold up over time and I'm sure many of you are wondering the same thing. So here it is, a completely honest update on our wood counters.
Two years ago, in September 2011, I wrote a post about …

The Wood Flooring Countertop, Part II
Alright everyone, this is part two of my bathroom countertop adventure. (If you haven't read the first part you can do that HERE.) When I left y'all we had successfully made a counter out of maple wood flooring, which happens to be particularly hard to stain. Here was my first attempt...
It looked terrible and Adam vetoed it right away. And that's saying something because he never vetoes things, he  usually just lets me gush about weird new ideas that my brain comes up with and then tries his …

2019 update - Click here to read an updated tutorial on how to make a wood flooring countertop!
As you may or may not know, we have started remodeling our tiny master bathroom. You know that dresser that a gave a makeover the other day?
Well, it's our new bathroom vanity! (or at least we're working on it.)
Here is a before picture, just for reference.
There was one problem with the dresser/vanity swicharoo....the top of the dresser wasn't deep enough for the sink I bought. It …

Rustic/Industrial Bathroom Vanity
This post is a little out if the blue, huh? Â I didn't give y'all much warning, but yes, we've been working on our guest/kids bathroom. Â Never a dull moment around here!
I'm just going to jump right into it and show y'all the before picture....
That is the original before picture....gotta love that bright salmon that plagued our house! Since that picture we had painted it green (same as the living room and laundry room), so here is the "right before" pictures...
Not terrible by any means, …

Penny Countertop
Last September we finished our butcher block countertops, but we didn't do our bar area. I mentioned in that post that I was open to suggestions and got the great idea to cover it in pennies and epoxy. Â Well, Â EIGHT months later it is finally finished!
This is one of those projects that if I was to do it again it would be super easy. I now know exactly what not to do, which means I'll fly through all the other penny coutertops I have planned. Oh wait...no, this was the only one. …

Installing Butcher Block Countertops
(Update: to read how it holding up after two years, go HERE)
.
When reading this post you might be under the impression that we  installed our counters in one really long day. Oh, how wrong you would be. This post covers an almost two week time frame...starting with removing the sink on day two, and replacing it with a new one on day twelve. What did we do for eleven days without a kitchen sink? Well, you will just have to read on to find out.
.
(FYI, this is a really old post and the …
