Alright everyone, this is part two of my bathroom countertop adventure. (If you haven't read the first part you can do that HERE.) When I left y'all we had successfully made a counter out of maple wood flooring, which happens to be particularly hard to stain. Here was my first attempt...
It looked terrible and Adam vetoed it right away. And that's saying something because he never vetoes things, he  usually just lets me gush about weird new ideas that my brain comes up with and then tries his …

Bathroom Remodel – Build A Counter Out Of Wood Flooring
2019 update - Click here to read an updated tutorial on how to make a wood flooring countertop!
As you may or may not know, we have started remodeling our tiny master bathroom. You know that dresser that a gave a makeover the other day?
Well, it's our new bathroom vanity! (or at least we're working on it.)
Here is a before picture, just for reference.
There was one problem with the dresser/vanity swicharoo....the top of the dresser wasn't deep enough for the sink I bought. It …

Open Kitchen Shelving (!!!)
So one night I got home from dinner, shopping, and a movie with a friend. I said hello to Adam and the boys and moseyed into the kitchen for a delicious glass of water. That's when I saw them, sitting on the countertops...the kitchen shelves that I had been nagging politely asking Adam to build for nearly a year.
My eyes got big and I stared at them excitedly. Then I heard something....it was the shelves, they were speaking to me. They said "Ashley! Look how much your husband loves you! He …

Built-In Outdoor Bench
You know how everyone has a spot in their house that just seems to collect stuff? That place that is everyone's dumping ground? Perhaps it's your entryway, mudroom, kitchen counters or your garage. Ours is our front porch. Yup, right out there in the open.
Let's just pretend for a second that I'm not a giant redneck who stores all her stuff on the front porch. Let's pretend this is a normal home decor blog where I don't show you horribly truthful pictures. Are you pretending? Okay then, …

DIY Screen Door For The Pantry
Way back in February, when I organized my pantry, I mentioned that I was looking for an old screen door to replace our current pantry door. I looked for an old screen door for a while, then a new one...but then realized that finding one in the size I needed was a pipe dream. Our pantry door is so narrow (24 inches) that screen doors in that size pretty much don't exist. Which is okay, because new screen doors cost about $150 - $200, and the one we built cost us a whopping $18.
Here is the …

Wooden Welcome Mat
A better title for this post would be "Pinterest Challenge: Part II", since Pinterest Challenge Part IÂ was a big 'ol flop. Â To jog your memory, here is the rubber mat I painted and ended up hating...
and here is the mat (from marthastewart.com) that I should have made...
Now if there is one thing I am good at, it's perseverance. I keep at my projects until they look the way I want them to (like my white bed, hexagon table and penny countertop...though I did give up on my slipcovers...). …

DIY Garage Foundation
Okay, I have to admit something. I have the HARDEST time with the first sentence of a post.  In fact, I usually write the first sentence last because I don't know how to start. I've been trying to come up with one for this post for awhile and I've got nothin, except for this confession. Now that I've said that your probably going to pay extra attention to all my first sentences, but please don't. Anyway, now that I have that off my chest let's talk about pouring foundations!
(Go HERE if you …

Rustic/Industrial Bathroom Vanity
This post is a little out if the blue, huh? Â I didn't give y'all much warning, but yes, we've been working on our guest/kids bathroom. Â Never a dull moment around here!
I'm just going to jump right into it and show y'all the before picture....
That is the original before picture....gotta love that bright salmon that plagued our house! Since that picture we had painted it green (same as the living room and laundry room), so here is the "right before" pictures...
Not terrible by any means, …

DIY Farmhouse Table and Bench
Look what now resides happily in my dining room...
Yeah, I'm pretty much in love with it.
Here is how the dining room has looked for a while now.
Okay, that's not totally true - it's rarely that clean and usually includes a particularly messy high chair. I bought that table for $50 about seven years ago. It even came with chairs, but we had to leave those in New York when we moved, since we ran out of room in the moving van. I'm sure your familiar with it, it's pretty much the backdrop …

(Pre Blog) Living Room Floor & Shelves
One the first projects we did after moving in (besides painting over all the pink) was ripping up the carpet in the living room and hallway replacing it with wood. We did this in December of 2010, so you will have to excuse the crapiness of the photos. I had no idea that anyone besides my family would see these, as it was a pre blog project. Anyway, here is what our floors look like.
I freakin love them.
Why?
Carpet is gross. When I clean these I know they're CLEAN (keyword is …
