It’s been a while since I’ve posted a furniture makeover on the blog, even though redoing furniture is one of my favorite things. We’ve been so busy building our house for the last year that I’ve barely posted about anything else or done any projects just because I enjoy them. So this table...I actually finished it about six months ago, but with all the craziness I never got around to blogging about it. Better late than never though, right?
So last spring my in-laws house flooded and they …

Gold Leaf Stencil Art and Honest House Photos
*Thank you to Cutting Edge Stencils for sponsoring this post.*
Things have been so busy with the new house that I haven’t done any fun craft projects lately. And even though making super quick and stressful decisions about $10,000 expenses is crazy fun, I kinda miss the quick and easy projects that provide instant gratification. I’ve been itching to gold leaf something for a while now, so I decided to try and gold leaf with a stencil and make some simple, shiny art.
The good news is that I …

Simple Christmas Window Decor
I have a confession to make.
I haven't started decorating for Christmas yet. I haven't even thought about getting the boxes out of storage. We haven't been listing to Christmas music. I haven't baked a single thing. Gifts? What gifts?
Now I've always been strictly in the "no Christmas before Thanksgiving" camp, and this year I've done a particularly excellent job of holding out. My kids have been really patient, especially considering that they are ALL ABOUT Christmas decor. As soon as …

Round Inlay Table…err, Wall Medallion
Three years ago I stenciled a dining room table for my in-laws using the Indian Inlay kit from Cutting Edge Stencils.
It turned out gorgeous, but admittedly took me forever to do since the stencils comes in a bunch or small pieces (which also makes it super versatile).
I remember a few of you asking if you could use this on a round table, and at the time you couldn't. Since then Cutting Edge has come out with a round version of this stencil (two actually). As great as that news is, …

DIY lampshade with a hidden design
A few months ago I received an e-mail from a woman name Kiri who had recently launched her own company. It's called i like that lamp, and she sells lampshade kits where you order the exact size you need and use your own fabric to customize it. I thought it was a great idea for a company...not that there aren't plenty of ways to reuse old Goodwill lampshades, but you have to spend time hunting those down and the usually aren't any modern drum lampshades in the pile (at least not in my …

Introducing Paint-A-Pillow + A Giveaway
Many of you know that Cutting Edge Stencils is a sponsor of Domestic Imperfection. It all started when I won one of their stencils in a giveaway and used it to create the paisley stenciled table, which became the project that got my blog off the ground. I have worked with Cutting Edge ever since (almost three years!), they are a fantastic company and my biggest cheerleader.
So recently Cutting Edge launched a new company called Paint-A-Pillow.
I know this is going to come as a surprise, …

Rustic Christmas Art
It's hard to believe that Christmas is only a few weeks away...where did time go? If it wasn't getting dark crazy early and making me feel like I'm cooking dinner at midnight I almost wouldn't believe it.
Today I have a simple Christmas craft to share with you. It's the only one I have planned for the year because I'm not one of those organized bloggers that's good a planning ahead. Also, I'm busy turning food into a human...that's a legitimate excuse, right? It feels legitimate to me. Here …

Nursery Sign Semi Success
So the saga of the nursery sign for my nephew continues. Two weeks ago I posted about my first attempt at a name sign for baby Chandler, and I ended up with a sign that was wasn't bad, but also wasn't my favorite. And then there was the fact that I couldn't bring myself to give it to my SIL because it was over eight feet long and completely ridiculous.
So I decided to try again. For the first sign I used the 12 inch letter stencils from Cutting Edge Stencils, in all different designs. I …

Nursery Sign Semi Fail
I mentioned in a previous post that my sister-in-law recently had a baby, little Chandler.
Less than two years ago his older sister was born, and I made her this name sign out of an old section of fence and lots and lots of buttons. (tutorial here)
I can't very well make Mallory a sign and not Chandler, so I did a little brainstorming on how I could make one without spending days gluing buttons. Buttons would be fine if his name was Bob or TJ or something, but "Chandler" in buttons …

Stenciled Farmhouse Table + Country Living Magazine
Are any of y'all familiar with a little magazine called Country Living? Yeah, I thought so...in this crowd that's like asking a toddler if he's heard of something called "blocks". So a few months ago I received an e-mail from Country Living asking if I'd be interested in working with them and Minwax on a project for the magazine.
Now most of the time it takes me a few days (or weeks, even) to respond to e-mails after I receive them. This one though...I was all over this one like white on rice. …

Stenciling a Concrete Floor
My friend Abby has lived in a tiny old farmhouse for a while, and recently her and her husband renovated and expanded it to be their forever home. Their new house is fantastic...it's roomy and open without being huge. Plus it's on 13 acres...so it's basically my dream house. I should really do a house tour of the whole thing, actually. One day, but not today... today the only part of her house we're touring in the mudroom/laundry room floor. Stop it, it's going to be awesome. Here's the …

Snowflakes in a Frame
Today I'm sharing with y'all my third and final Christmas craft. This one is a little more difficult than the other two, but still super doable. You should probably read the tutorial though, instead of just scrolling through the pics and taking off on your own. Yeah, I'm onto you.
Yesterday's idea was for all those old frames that are missing glass, today's idea is for all those frames lucky enough to keep their glass intact.
Materials -

Small Hallway Reveal (It only took me a year!)
Last November I stenciled the little hallway the connects the master bedroom to the living room. Calling it a hallway is actually quite generous, "nook" would describe it better. I stenciled it using the Birch Forest Stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils, which was time-consuming but turned out great. I fully intended to decorate the area after I stenciled, but then life (and other projects) happened and I abandon the whole area.
But now it's decorated...and I love it.
The hallway has been …

Birthing a Stenciled Bathroom
I'm back with a bathroom update! I didn't forget about it, I've been sloooooowly working on it this whole time. Last time I updated y'all on the bathroom it was APRIL (holy cow) and I showed you the finished dresser turned vanity. Well, here is what it looks like today!
Yup, I stenciled it. We obviously did other stuff too, but this post is about the stenciling. It took f-o-r-e-v-e-r-, but it looks awesome.
So lets dive right into the details...
First I painted the bathroom white from …

15 Ways to Give Your Furniture New Life
Let's face it, buying new furniture is expensive. So expensive, in fact, that I've never actually done it (besides couches, because I'm not awesome/crazy enough to DIY a couch). There is also the problem that new furniture is, well... boring. To me it all looks the same and basically has zero personality. A great (and super cheap!) solution to this is to redo old furniture. But what do you do with your ratty old thrift store furniture once you get it home?
1. Paint it a fun …

A Birch Forest Hallway
There is an awkward little hallway that leads to my master bedroom. Actually, calling it a hallway is quite generous...it's really just a wall that blocks people from being able to see our bed from the street. That probably doesn't make much sense, so allow me draw you a (horribly inaccurate) picture.
So as you can see, the wall is weird - but the wall is important!
Here is what my little hallway has looked like since we moved in and painted...

Updating The Updated Barstools
So you probably remember last month when I took my uber brown craigslist barstools and lighted them up.
I love them, they look great...but they needed something. Nothing crazy, just...something. A reader suggested numbers and I knew right away that's what I wanted to do.
I also knew that I did NOT want to hand paint them...I can see that going very very wrong. I've seen some tutorials for freezer paper (some tutorials call for wax paper) stenciling floating around and figured I'd give that …

A Peek Inside My Brain & A Giveaway from Cutting Edge Stencils!
I know, I have been a stenciling fool as of late. I'm not done yet either!
Those are my most recent stenciling projects (paisley table, Indian table, Texas forever sign, dog house end table). You might be thinking "Girl, you can't stencil everything! Your house is going to look ridiculous!" Here's the thing...out of those four stencil projects the only one I kept was the "Texas Forever" sign, the rest were given away to family. Plus the Texas sign is barely even stenciled AND it's outside, …

Indian Inlay Stenciled Table
Bone inlayed furniture is really popular right now...not with people like us, cause we're cheap, but with people that have money to throw around.
The first dresser (the little black one) has a price tag of....hold onto your britches....$2,999! Holy cajoles...most of the cars we've owned have cost less than that. Do people really pay that much for furniture? I'm sure some do or else these companies wouldn't be in business...I'm also sure that those people wouldn't be caught dead reading my …

Heres To You, Tim Riggins
For awhile now I've wanted to put some sort of saying on our front porch. We have a little lip around the top that would be perfect for resting some letters on, and I wanted a fun upbeat saying for us/other people to see when we/they are leaving. I thought and thought...
"Have a great day!" - cheesy, I don't want people to feel like they are leaving a gas station.
"It's a beautiful day" - fantastic U2 song, but not feeling it.
"Smile" or "Be Happy" or something like that - too impersonal, …
