A Peek Inside My Brain & A Giveaway from Cutting Edge Stencils!

I know, I have been a stenciling fool as of late. I’m not done yet either!

stencil projects

Those are my most recent stenciling projects (paisley table, Indian table, Texas forever sign, dog house end table). You might be thinking “Girl, you can’t stencil everything! Your house is going to look ridiculous!” Here’s the thing…out of those four stencil projects the only one I kept was the “Texas Forever” sign, the rest were given away to family.  Plus the Texas sign is barely even stenciled AND  it’s outside, so it doesn’t count.  This means I’m allowed to do some stencil projects in my own home. Not that I will get to them anytime soon, first we have some other things we need to get done….like the kitchen. You were all thinking it anyway…yes, one day we do plan on finishing the kitchen!

Anyway, let me tell you some of my future stenciling ideas.

First, I’ve been looking for a dresser to make into an entertainment center. Our record player isn’t working anymore because the storage isn’t very usable (you can read a tiny bit about it in my first post ever). Here is a picture of it in our apartment in New York…

A screen shot of a living room

That things a goner…we’ll probably be giving it to a family member. Do y’all want to be in my family or what? Anyway, the new entertainment center/dresser  will get painted, then have a bare wood/reverse stencil peeking through in a single off center vertical stripe. I want to use this acacia stencil…

A living room

I only want to use one or two vertical lines though, not the whole thing. Does that make any sense? Probably not, but hopefully you at least are getting a kick out of how my brain works.

Idea numero dos – My little “hallway” leading from the living room to the master bedroom. Here it is now…

A close up of a door

It’s boring. I don’t really like my tree painting. Something must change.

I have two idea’s for this space. The first is to use the birch forest stencil and make it into a little, well, forest. It’s small space, so it can handle something funky. Here is what that stencil looks like…

stencils

OR, I want to cover the walls in white planks, like this…A kitchen with a stove and a refrigerator

(SOURCE)

Either way it’s also getting a super glamorous mini chandelier :)

 Idea three –

The master bedroom is getting a makeover. Hold on, let me start over. The master bedroom is getting a makeover as soon as we finish the kitchen.

My stencil idea has to do with the floor. We currently have carpet in there…horrible, ugly, stained, nasty nasty carpet. (Can you tell I hate carpet?)  My plan is to rip it all out and paint the concrete floors. I’m thinking they will be white, or possibly a slightly tan or slightly blue kinda white. Then I’ll give it a subtle stencil treatment, like this…

Floor and Paint

(SOURCE)

…except even more subtle, more of a tone on tone look. Perhaps one tone will be shimmery…I haven’t ironed out all the details yet :)  I’m thinking of using one of these two stencils…

Stencil and Damask

(stencil 1 , stencil 2)

Anyway, those are some of my stencil ideas for my house. Don’t even get me started on all the non stencil ideas! People are always asking me if I’m worried about running out of ideas and not having anything to write about. No, never. Running out of ideas is never going to be an issue, y’all have no clue how many projects I have in my head at any given time. My big issue it time, not idea’s.

Now let’s get to the reason y’all are here…a stencil giveaway!

HOW TO ENTER

Head on over to the Cutting Edge Stencils website and pick out your favorite stencil. Then come leave me a comment (on this post) saying which one you choose!

That’s it! One entry per person. The winner will receive stencil(s) of their choice up to a $50 value. Giveaway will remain open until 10pm next Wednesday (July 25th). The winner will be chosen via the “And the winner is…” WordPress plugin and I will announce it on facebook and send them an e-mail. Ready, set …go!

Hi, Ashley! I love your newest stencil projects–way too cool! If I were to win (pick me! pick me!) I would have a really hard time picking between any of the craft size stencils. I love them all! I’d leave it up to you! See how great of a winner I would be…pick me! Okay, I know it’s chosen randomly…but, begging never hurts. :)

I love each of those ideas; can’t wait to see the finished projects. You didn’t ask for my opinion but I personally really like the forest for your hallway. And the diamond patterned stencil will be so pretty as a floor. I also have a concrete basement floor I want to paint, it’s a good place to have some fun. If I win you the stencil, after much deciding, I think I would like the Fuji allover. Thanks for sharing all your wonderful ideas.

I have shared your stenciled dining table post with sooooo many people since I discovered it. I sold a set a year ago that I totally could have done that with, but such is life…I loved all the stencils, but since I am a beginner, I would really love the Bon Appitit stencil for my kitchen. Thanks so much, I really enjoy your creativity.

Been saving ideas for finishing my basement.. Cement floor.. Aiming for 3 different areas or, “rooms” with nice borders.. Oh the possibilities! So glad i found your blog!

Where were those Damask stencils a few months ago when I did a wall in my house??? Wish I had known about Cutting Edge sooner! I just recommended them (for the chandelier stencil) to someone today after stumbling across your blog. Although I want to own every stencil they show, I MUST and will try the Indian Inlay on some end tables that desperately need beautification. Just what I was looking for!!! Glad I found you.

  25. Katie says

So hard to choose. I really love the paisley, but my husband finds it too busy. For the next project I’m planning, I think maybe Fuji or Fusion would be the right balance of simple geometry + sophistication.

  26. Michele says

    July 18, 2012 at 10:21 pm

If only we didn’t have to sleep…! I love the Paisley stencil, but that’s not the one I would pick. I already have it and the Wispy Leaves stencil. I used the Paisley to beautify a pair of end tables (in my blog post listed below). The Wispy Leaves stencil is for my dining room tile. Next on my wish list would be either the Pebbles stencil for my utility room floor, or one to use for an inlay technique–maybe Kathy Peterson’s Lattice or Fleur craft stencils. Thanks for introducing me to Cutting Edge Stencils!

I have to say, your floor idea is phenomenal. I am not sure if you are looking for opinions but I must say . . . stencil 2 would be an amazing pattern on such a large canvas! :) I also love the dog house you created that allows for pampering a pup without sacrificing style.

A dresser as an entertainment stand is amazing! I just completed mine and I am sooooo happy with it, it’s now my favorite piece in our house.

I would love to be considered in the contest you are hosting. If I had to pick a stencil from their site I would have to say that the Anna Damask stencil is spectacular! Fingers crossed . . .

I am already looking forward to your next post . . . I can’t wait to see what you come up with next!

Well, I’m nut sure! Since I, too, will be ripping, shredding, pulling out, and doing whatever else I can to rid my little house of that disguting, nasty, stinky, ugly, did I say disgusting?, carpet, I want to paint the cement floors. I’ve never done it and unlike you, who will actually do it, I’m still thinking and dreaming. And that Turkish Tulip Allover might just be perfect! Not nearly as perfect as Tim Riggin’s, his last toast, the whole show and the fact that you can commemorate it as a legit Texan right there on your porch. I’m not often jealous, but that one got me. I miss them still, don’t y’all? What happened to grandma? And Tim’s little bit of property? Yeah. I miss em.

I love the Zamira Craft Size Stencil! This would be great to use as a pillow design (like they had shown), but for sooooo much more! I could picture it on tote bags, a handpainted rug, a handpainted vase, woodburned in a serving platter or salad bowl, goodness I could just keep going on and on!

I love the look, and I would love to try it but they are rather pricey! So.. if I were to win your giveaway, I would chose the Zamira craft stencil and the Casablanca craft stencil. :)

You do fantastic work, and you inspired me to make a Salvation Army run, where I found a new dresser and table that I will be stripping down and bringing back to life… I would choose the “All Over Paisley” stencil, and I have to say it is simply because of the work you have done with it….. If “Cutting Edge Stencils” hired you as a representative I could only imagine how much their sales would increase… They have a great website, but actually seeing the product used by an everyday consumer, trial and error, gives an inexperienced hobbyist like me the confidence to try the product… Win or lose, I will still be following your blog, Great Job creating, and Inspiring!
